Wearing Poetry

Kylie Miller and Jenna Colturi are third grade students at Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg, Virginia who love poetry so much they are wearing the props to four poems.  After Kalli's visit on Friday, October 6th, their teacher, Mrs.Connie Shaw took this wonderful picture.

Kalli has visited Loudoun Country Day School seventeen years in a row, and has had fun "playing" poetry with the students and teachers all these years.

Her thanks go to Dr. Eleanor Fall, the school's amazing librarian, and to Dr. Randy Hollister, a very special headmaster who believes that poetry should be celebrated every day in school.

The Four Poems Kylie and Jenna are Wearing

Head Poppers - "The Poetry Poppers are Popping Today" (unpublished poem by Kalli Dakos)
Band-Aids - "The Band-Aid Collection"  in PUT YOUR EYES UP HERE
Rainbow Sunglasses - "Dancing on a Rainbow" in IF YOU'RE NOT HERE, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND
Leis - "I Left My Book in Hawaii"  in IF YOU'RE NOT HERE, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND

Kalli Dakos Visits Millard Hawk Primary School

"We had a wonderful visit with author/poet Kalli Dakos. Kalli does all kinds of wonderful, interactive activities with her poetry and the children were totally captivated. I'm posting pictures of some teachers participating in Kalli's poetry. Mrs. Misch, our principal, got to kiss Hamlet the Pig NINE times!!"

"Kalli included lots of bathroom humor in her presentation and had real little flushing toilets! Kalli loves to "play poems" and she gets her whole audience involved."

You'll see one teacher with "chicken pops" all over her face. Another teacher is sharing her love of music by singing a poem. In another picture Kalli is using a streamer to show the rhyme in a poem.
